The 50th anniversary of Poland’s longest-running printmaking exhibition took place in June 2016. From its earliest days (the event was biennial until 1986) it was a unique initiative, spanning the boundaries of the Iron Curtain and providing a window onto the world, with wide-reaching interest of the international printmaking community. The format has evolved; the triennial has entered the digital era and become open to multimedia, all the while maintaining respect for tradition and not shunning classic techniques.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary, the International Print Triennial Society is recalling some of the finest moments of the event’s history. The Academy of Fine Arts is hosting the exhibition Semaphores. Selected Prints by Winners of the MBG and MTG, 1966-2015 (to 15 June). The main celebrations are held on 13 and 14 June 2016: the Planty park opened the exhibition-installation Window onto the World. MBG and MTG, 1966-2015 paying homage to the universal language of printmaking and to all 298 artists awarded during the last half-century. The following day, the presentation 50/50. Artists of the MBG and MTG, 1966-2015 at the International Centre for Graphic Arts recalled outstanding artworks which have become instrumental in the development of contemporary printmaking.
